About

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

For over 30 years, from 1953 to 1987, the water supply at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina was contaminated with toxic chemicals that are linked to serious and deadly health conditions.

Contaminants such as metal degreasers, dry-cleaning solvents and other industrial chemicals leaked into water used by residents and workers at the base for drinking, cleaning, cooking, and more. Though the rampant contamination was discovered decades ago, little has been done to rectify the situation in terms of compensation and benefits for those exposed until recently.
People impacted by the water contamination at Camp Lejeune include veterans, their families, non-military workers, contractors, and more.

Camp Lejeune Justice Act

The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is a new piece of legislation included in the Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022.
This piece of legislation aims to hold the Military accountable for their inaction relating to the events at the military base in a new way: the Camp Lejeune Justice Act allows those exposed to toxic substances in the water at Camp Lejeune to sue and recover damages for related injuries.
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act overrides a previous North Carolina statute that made litigation of this sort previously unfeasible.
