CAMP LEJEUNE WATER CONTAMINATION

Marine Corps base Camp Lejeune was established as a training ground in 1941. Located in North Carolina, it has been home to millions of Marines, their families, and locals from the surrounding areas who work on base.

However, beginning in 1953 and persisting through 1987, the water supply at the base was contaminated with toxic chemicals. These chemicals put the millions of individuals who were exposed to them at risk of developing life-changing illnesses.

If you lived or worked at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1981 and have been diagnosed with cancer, infertility, or had a child with birth defects, it may have been caused by the contamination in the water supply. You may be entitled to compensation.

Pact Act

The Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022 is a new legislation that will afford new benefits and protections to veterans harmed by toxic chemicals during service.

There is currently not a framework for filing a claim against the government or military for causing water contamination-related diseases. However, there is a bill in the works, Camp Lejeune Justice Act, that would create a way for injured people to file lawsuits. The bill enjoys rare bipartisan support. Once it is passed, claimants will have the ability to seek compensation for their illnesses.

We are sorry for your loss. A deceased claimant's family will be able to file a claim on behalf of their loved one.

This depends on when the bill is signed into law. From the date of the bill's signing, claimants will have two years to file. If that two year window is missed, injured parties will not be able to file, and will lose their ability to seek compensation for these injuries. If you believe you or your loved one's health complications were caused by exposure to toxic water at Camp Lejeune, it is important to get started with your case as soon as possible.
